More News What's Happening at USD More Events January 20, 2020 Professional Development: Serving Students with Sensory Disabilities and Complex Needs Registration Deadline: January 12 It can be difficult to find training, education and best practice classroom strategies for students who have sensory difficulties and complex needs. Through a collaboration between the University of South Dakota, the South Dakota Deaf-Blind Project and the National Center on Deaf-Blindness, online professional development opportunities for teachers and related service providers is offered, with a variety of credit options available. Although the information is geared toward Deaf-Blindness, much of what is learned can be applied to students with severe disabilities/complex needs. January 24, 2020 34th Annual Stilwell Student Awards Exhibtion The 34th Annual Stilwell Student Awards Exhibition recognizes artistic talent and creative work from the University of South Dakota Fine Arts BFA and MFA students. This year's juror is 2010 USD Art Department Alumnus and sculptor of the Coyote Legacy Sculpture, Cameron Stalheim. January 26, 2020 USD Wellness Center Kids Climb Camp The USD Wellness Center is offering a Kids Climb Camp. The class meets from 2:00-3:00PM on four Sundays starting January 26 and ending February 23. Class size is limited to ten participants. January 27, 2020 Belbas-Larson Awards for Excellence in Teaching The University of South Dakota students, faculty and staff are invited to submit nominations for the annual Belbas-Larson Awards for Excellence in Teaching. Each year, one tenured and one non-tenured faculty member (non-tenured includes Assistant Professor, Senior Lecturer, Lecturer, Instructor, Senior Librarian, Librarian, Associate Librarian and Assistant Librarian) are recognized at the spring commencement with a $5,000 tribute. The awards are made possible by a gift from Dean Belbas, a former vice president of General Mills and former Chairman of the Board of the USD Foundation, and his close friends Harold W. and Kathryn Larson of Scottsdale, Arizona. Nominations must be submitted to the Office of Academic Affairs, Slagle Hall 102, by Feb. 7, 2020.
